AS THE PRARIES WERE WHEN THE INDIANS CONTROLLED THE LAND |
The praries in western kentuky were not the natural environment if nature was left to its own ways. The indians purposely burned off huge segment of land to make conditions favorable for the Deer, Elk, and Buffalo to live there. The most natural condition of the land would be tall trees which would canipied the ground so that little vegetation could grow. |
They are a little hard to see in this picture, but there are about 30 buffalo standing, lying, and milling around just inside the edge of the trees. |
